Transgender Day of Visibility

#TDoV

Today is the Transgender Day of Visibility. It’s been celebrated, mostly online, since 2009, as a day for trans people to be out, open, and visible in the world. It’s a day to celebrate the lived lives of trans people.

I hosted a phone call with my company today. People called in from all over the country and we had a great chat about being trans. I’m sure for many of them, even virtually, I put a human voice to a trans person.

Most trans folks on Twitter are posting selfies today, coming out publicly as trans and sharing their history.

So much has changed over the last thirty years. My youth and young adulthood were overshadowed with a cloud that couldn’t be discussed. For the last 11 years though, people have been able to proudly declare that they are trans. That’s a good culture change.
